چکیده

Name: Liu, Kai Worked for more than 160 Hours: Yes Contribution to Project: Doctoral candidate working as a graduate research assistant on the project. Working on numerical modeling of the orthogonal micro-cutting process incorporating a non-local law of strain gradient plasticity. Is currently supported on another NSF grant that ends on 03/31/04. Is extending the numerical model developed in that grant to the current project.

A Semi-analytical Solution for Flexural Vibration of Micro Beams Based on the Strain Gradient Theory

In this paper, the flexural free vibrations of three dimensional micro beams are investigated based on strain gradient theory. The most general form of the strain gradient theory which contains five higher-order material constants has been applied to the micro beam to take the small-scale effects into account. Having considered the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, governing equations of motion are w...

Finite Element Modeling of Strain Rate and Grain Size Dependency in Nanocrystalline Materials

Nanocrystalline materials show a higher strain-rate sensitivity in contrast to the conventional coarse-grained materials and a different grain size dependency. To explain these phenomenon, a finite element model is constructed that considers both grain interior and grain boundary deformation of nanocrystalline materials. The model consist of several crystalline cores with different orientations...

Microstructure-based 3d Fe Modeling for Micro Cutting Ferritic- Pearlitic Carbon Steels

The mechanics of the cutting process on the microscopic level differ fundamentally from the conventional macro cutting. For example, the tool edge radius influences the cutting mechanism in micro machining significantly with regard to the effective rake angle, the minimum chip thickness, the dominance of ploughing, and the related elasto-plastic deformation of the workpiece material. These phen...

Vibration Analysis of Magneto-Electro-Elastic Timoshenko Micro Beam Using Surface Stress Effect and Modified Strain Gradient Theory under Moving Nano-Particle

In this article, the free vibration analysis of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) Timoshenko micro beam model based on surface stress effect and modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) under moving nano-particle is presented. The governing equations of motion using Hamilton’s principle are derived and these equations are solved using differential quadrature method (DQM). The effects of dimensionless...
